About

¡Con Salsa!

Hosted by José C. Massó III for nearly five decades, the weekly program features the very best in Afro-Latin music, spoken word, history and commentary.

In 1999, Boston Globe Magazine described the show as, “Part music show, part party, part community center, the program is a Mecca for Latinos and lovers of things Latin."

Each week, Massó's show seeks to cover a vast array of music, offering Afro-Cuban folkloric rhythms and dances as well as hits from the Mambo era of the Palladium, particularly those from the three major orchestras: Tito Puente, Tito Rodríguez and Machito and his Afro-Cubans. The show also highlights the best of Latin boogaloo, the salsa boom of the 1970s, Latin jazz, Latin rock, bomba and plena from Puerto Rico, merengue and bachata from the Dominican Republic, cumbia and vallenato from Colombia and the salsa consciente music of Rubén Blades and others.

Presented in a bilingual format (English and Spanish), the five-hour program serves as a bridge from the past and present, honoring and celebrating a rich musical and cultural history that simultaneously embraces the present moment and future of Latin music.

Tune in to ¡Con Salsa! at WBUR every Saturday, from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m.
