Come relive the epic domination from this year’s championship team, as well as the glory days of past giants – Red Auerbach, Bill Russell, Larry Bird, John Havlicek and Paul Pierce to name a few.

WBUR reporter Simón Rios moderates the conversation with Washburn, which will feature photos and video from marquee moments throughout the years. About “The Boston Celtics: An Illustrated Timeline”
The Boston Celtics are the most storied franchise in NBA history, with a record 18 championships, 24 retired numbers and dozens of Hall of Fame players. From Bob Cousy to Chuck Cooper to Bill Russell to Dave Cowens to John Havlicek to Larry Bird to Robert Parish to Dennis Johnson to Paul Pierce to Kevin Garnett to Jayson Tatum, “The Boston Celtics: An Illustrated Timeline” covers all the greats and their paramount moments, including the dominant 2024 championship.

The franchise began as a member of the Basketball Association of America and then became an NBA cornerstone, with Hall of Famer Red Auerbach leading the Celtics to nine championships in a 10-year span, including eight in a row with Russell, Cousy and Tom Heinsohn. The Celtics would make history by naming Russell as the first African American coach in American team sports, and Russell went on to lead the Celtics to two more championships as a player-coach. The dominance continued with two more titles in the 1970s, three more in the 1980s, one in 2008 and most recently in 2024.

This book tells the illustrated story with detailed descriptions about all those special moments of this benchmark franchise, with a focus on 2024’s championship team. The ups. The downs. The big plays. The game-winning shots. “The Boston Celtics: An Illustrated Timeline” conjures up all these special memories. Written by longtime beat writer and columnist Gary Washburn, who selected these 170-plus moments, the book is a must for those who bleed Celtics green and those who love NBA basketball then, now and forever.
