WBUR announces new limited series podcast, 'Beyond All Repair,' in partnership with ZSP Media

From WBUR, home of podcasts including Endless Thread, The Gun Machine and Violation, comes Beyond All Repair, a gripping new audio documentary. The 10-episode podcast is the result of a three-year-long reinvestigation into a cold case that's ripped a family apart; a woman who wasn’t believed; and a search for the truth that will leave you questioning everything — and everyone. Hosted and reported by WBUR's Amory Sivertson, Beyond All Repair premieres on March 7 with a sneak preview on March 1 at On Air Fest in Brooklyn.

Beyond All Repair is produced in partnership with ZSP Media, a media company specializing in podcast development and production. Founder Zac Stuart-Pontier (co-creator of Crimetown and HBO's "The Jinx") is Beyond All Repair’s lead editor.

Beyond All Repair is borne out of an early Endless Thread episode in 2018 about the Correia family and youngest brother, Shane. (If you haven't listened already, you'll hear how Shane went from a turbulent childhood and a period of homelessness to a career as a lawyer.) In conversation with Sivertson, Shane shares the story of his sister Sophia — who, as a young, pregnant newlywed, was tried for brutally murdering her mother-in-law. To this day, Sophia swears she didn't do it. But she's never been believed.

In 2021, Sophia began sharing her story with Sivertson, who agreed to look into the case and began requesting case files, examining the trial footage and talking to many involved. Beyond All Repair is the result of what she discovered.

"Sophia is someone you want to believe. She's compelling," says Sivertson. "But I had to constantly ask myself: Am I being manipulated? Who is really to blame for how her life has unraveled? Is it the justice system, one of her family members or Sophia herself?"

Beyond All Repair ends with an answer.

"The listener will be along for the ride on this head-spinning journey, and, by the end, they'll know where I land," says Sivertson.

Sivertson and Stuart-Pontier will take the main stage at On Air Fest for a conversation about controversial, questionable narrators and the details of a case that's kept Sivertson up at night for years. On Air Fest, the premier cultural event for audio storytellers and inspired listeners, was created and is produced by the agency work x work. The festival brings together an expansive range of emerging and established voices to explore the creative possibilities of sound — including this year's headlining talent Malcolm Gladwell, Tonya Mosley of Fresh Air, Sarah Koenig of Serial and many more.
